About the Band

“Genre-defying, a mash-up of art rock and nu jazz, Radiohead meets Lizz Wright.”   -Water Hill Music Festival 2011

Markita Moore, Ian Tran, David Watson, and Phelan Young synthesize an eclectic array of talents and insight to each performance as Elemental Meaning. Hardships, heartbreak, injustices; the joys of kindness, empowerment, love and creation inspire the group from all aspects of life. An organic fusion of indie-rock, folk, and soul, Elemental Meaning seeks to communicate the salience of these fundamental life experiences through their music and presence.

Hailing from Detroit, the band has performed throughout the Southeast Michigan region at Ann Arbor’s Waterhill Music Festival, the Dearborn C.A.R.E.S. Festival, Detroit’s Majestic theatre, Wyandotte Main Street Festival, Detroit’s Pride Festival, and various open mics throughout the summer of 2011.
